Meggitt plc is a global aerospace and energy manufacturing company that grew through acquisition to become a collection of 33 self-contained business units. Maxxim has worked with Meggitt since 2003.
Phase 1 – Building the corporate centre
In 2003 Maxxim was asked to design and implement a new corporate centre structure to add strategy, sales, HR and operational strength to an existing financial and legal holding company structure. New positions and teams were created which enabled the Group to better manage the portfolio of operational business units. This resulted in much better cross-border and cross-Business Unit working and a more joined-up customer proposition.
Phase 2 – Business transformation
Following the success of the corporate centre project, Maxxim was asked to lead a company transformation designed to reduce costs and to better position Meggitt for future growth. Building on the Meggitt corporate centre project, Maxxim worked with senior executive leading the transformation project to consolidate the 33 BUs into 5 Strategic Business Units and to eliminate £30m of cost. The work also involved building and strengthening central HR, strategy, sales & marketing and engineering functions and designing common processes to be implemented across Meggitt. The result is a stronger and leaner global business which is organised for growth. Since Maxxim began working with Meggitt it has moved from 149 to 111 FTSE index.
Phase 3 – Implementation and change management
Following the transformation project, Maxxim continues to support the implementation of the new operating model. For example, working with the executive team of one SBU, on the design and implementation of a SAP system in its engineering function.
Phase 4 – HR information system
Maxxim was asked to support the definition of a business case to implement a global HR information system. Working with key Meggitt personnel Maxxim supported the creation of the HR Information Systems business case through to its approval by Meggitt’s executive committee. The system will allow the Group to manage its people on a more global basis at a lower cost, taking advantage of a regional HR shared services structure.
